Varnished Wood
In addition to its admired look, varnish actually offers a great protection to the wood. Wood coated with varnish doesn’t get dried-up or fragmented, it doesn’t absorb humidity, it isn’t affected by dirt or pollution, and therefore it doesn’t get stained by oil or polish spilling.
The lack of pigment in the varnish means that it doesn’t protect the underlying surface from the sun. The UV radiation penetrates the coating and carbonize the wood oils, making the wood under the varnish get darker. In order to minimize this effect, the varnish manufacturers add UV inhibitors to their products.

Metals in nautical
Steel.
In order to avoid corrosion, we must apply a paint system that protects it from humidity and oxygen, therefore neutralizing the external agents action.
Aluminium.
Its oxide layer reacts adversely to the seawater salt, it’s important to protect the aluminium with waterproof primes without metal compounds.
